Condolences
I am deeply sad to hear of the passing of Ted Shelegy. Belated condolences to his family. I was the constituency president and campaign manager for the Brant Green Party Ontario during his run for office. His generosity was evident with his sharing of spelt, Swiss chard, and whatever else came from his garden at the time. He was a gregarious, loving, and intelligent man, well before his time with his ideas on sustainable agriculture and the threat of global warming
We are so deeply saddened to hear about Ted’s passing. We met Ted three years ago in the Haldimand-Norfolk Beekepers Association, and we immediately struck a chord with him, as we are both teachers. Ted soon became a good friend, and we would have him over for dinner, even a traditional Ukrainian Christmas dinner. Ted was charismatic, made great conversation, and had a hearty laugh when he found something funny. We loved listening to his stories, especially of his trip to the Ukraine many years ago. Ted was a generous man who would drop off freshly picked strawberries, home-grown organic tomatoes, and even firewood for us. Although we only knew him for a few short years, he left an imprint on us, and we will greatly miss him.
With deepest condolences,
Irene Kicak & Veronica Tunzi
On behalf of the Ontario Agricultural College (Ted was an OAC 64 grad) we offer our deepest condolences to the family on the loss of Ted. He was a great example to OAC grads past, present and future. He was very dedicated to agriculture, to passing on knowledge, and to supporting efforts to sustain the land. He was also dedicated to his classmates and to the college, participating consistently in OAC 64 events and meetings and donating back to the college to help future students. Ted was a great colleague, a great alum, a great friend to OAC and he was a great friend to me. Burford is my hometown and Ted and I shared that common bond as well as both being OAC grads. I was always happy to see him on campus to share ideas and to catch up. He was always full of life and always fun to talk to. He will be truly missed and our hearts go out to his family at this difficult time.
Sincerely
Rene Van Acker, OAC 89
Dean, Ontario Agricultural College
My heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Shelegy family and friends. I always enjoyed my conversations and interactions with Ted at the Guelph Organic Conference and when he would call me to discuss crops and field conditions during the growing season. He will be missed.

My condolences to the Shelegy family. I knew Ted through the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario and the National Farmers Union. He always had an interesting and different perspective to bring to conversations, with a commitment to learning more about farming and growing food while working with nature.
I am deeply saddened to hear of Ted's passing. I worked with Ted for several years at Organic Meadow and always loved our long conversations about ecological agriculture, his wild and wonderful theories, and looked forward to him bringing his dark chocolates to the office every time he came in for a meeting. He was an intelligent and thoughtful person. The agriculture industry has lost an eco-warrior with Ted's passing. My condolences to all of you.
Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your father Ted Shelegy. He was a dear friend from way back. We will miss him. FRED and KItty Cebulak

Ted was a neighbour for 35 years. He worked my small field with his organic farmland. We had many interesting conversations on a variety of subjects. Ted enjoyed sharing his recollections of the area as well as timely insights using his vast historical knowledge. Such a friendly, kind neighbour and community minded person will be missed.
I was sorry to learn of the passing of your dad. Your dad and my dad (John Sullivan) taught science at SCS together and my dad always spoke highly of your dad. Your dad also taught my science and physics in high school. I'm sure you've heard this many times but a favourite calculation was how much energy it took to dry corn. My memory of first meeting your dad was this: I was riding my bike to school by myself in kindergarten (you could do that in the 70's) when the chain came off at the bridge by the high school. I was trying to fix it myself (and only succeeding in getting grease all over myself) when along came a nice man who was walking to work at the school. He helped me put it back on and I was on my way. Well, that was your dad who helped me that day-just another example of his kindness. Again, sorry for your loss. Angela Moore
Sincere condolences to the Shelegy Family, Ted was truly a unique person and he will be miss by the community he so loved!
My thoughts and prayers are with Ted and his family. Ted taught with my father in Waterford , then he moved to Simcoe Composite where I was fortunate enough to have him as a grade 10 physics teacher. Over the years we became friends and he would stop in to see me at Simcoe Composite School where I taught for the last 20 years. I just saw and spoke with Ted just a few weeks ago. He was a wonderful man who influenced and guided many a young person. He will be missed by many.
My sincere sympathy to all of you in the loss of Ted. He was always an eager participant in my Welcome Wagon Showcases. My children Susan and Bob remember him fondly as a great teacher at S.C.S.
Sincerely,
Virginia Drayson
On behalf of the Optimist Club of Scotland and District, we send condolences to Ted’s family members. I will personally miss calling and leaving a message for him. Always listened to his message of reading a good book, with recommendation and then always finished off with a square of dark chocolate. Optimist Dianne Patenaude
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Theodore. I have never met him but have learned about his life through his letters, cards and phone conversations with him and through his Uncle Emil. It was always a pleasure to chat with him. His life was filled with love, family , friends and career in a beautiful presentation. May you hold many wonderful memories in your hearts. May he rest in peace . God bless.
Teresa Giles( Emil's goddaughter).
Ted was my highschool science teacher. I'm sorry for your loss, my condolences to you and your family. Patty Smith
I remember Mr. Shelegy from my days in the 1980s at SCS, but more recently when he worked as a supply teacher at Holy Trinity in Simcoe. He was a kind and gentle man - always interested in what people had to say. I looked forward to seeing him in the halls. He loved to talk about his farm and used to "bug" me about learning how to drive a tractor. Such a wonderful man. He will be missed for sure by those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Mr. Shelegy.
Our condolences to the Shelegy family for the passing of Ted. It has only been in the last couple of years that we became good friends with Ted. He would often share stories of our neighbourhood, reliving how he moved only within our one block his entire life. When I first moved to Scotland after marrying Rinus, I would look out our window to see Ted firing up his tractor as he headed out work ground while the rest of us were heading to bed. I realized a couple of years later that Ted still worked regularly in the classroom by day, attended Ag meetings or choir practice in early evening and then farmed by candlelight as it was the only time he had in his very active life. Ted somehow found time to spearhead the Scotland Optimist Club for many years carrying out many major projects. We should all aspire to be as active and live life to the fullest as Ted certainly did. We will truly miss you Ted and all the great laughs we shared together.
