Obituary of Mildred Barrie

Barrie, Mildred Shirley (nee MacMillan) Passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2020 in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Ernie Barrie. Daughter of the late Marie and Earl McMillan. Predeceased by her brother Stuart (Aileen). Will be sorely missed by nieces Janet (Jackson), and Joanne (Kenneth) MacMillan, and by nephew Bruce (Sharon), and their families, also by stepchildren Paul Barrie (Sue), Scott Barrie (Karen) and Karen Stoyles (John), Susan Snooks, and grandchildren Heather (Shaun), Kevin, Alex, and Emily (Jamie), great-granddaughter Evie, step-grandchildren Chad (Adele) and Scott, and step-great-grandchildren Autumn, Kaela, and Tyson. Mildred was born in Hornby, Ontario, but spent the bulk of her life in Paris and Brantford. In 1981 she retired from teaching at Paris District High School. Photography, traveling, gardening, sewing (the more challenging the pattern the better), and collecting recipes which she cooked and proudly shared, were her passions. She won many awards for her photography and - with Ernie - she loved combining photography and travel. Together they visited over 40 countries, and it didn’t matter if she was in a hot air balloon drifting over the Serengeti, or in a Zodiak in the Arctic Ocean photographing a walrus, or exploring Kathmandu, Nepal, she loved adventure. She was an active member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art (C.A.P.A.), the Photographic Society of America (PSA), the Brantford Garden Club, and the Brant Camera Club (previously the Brantford Guild of Colour Photography). She was a proud supporter of Laurier Brantford, the Brantford School of Instrumental Music, the Brantford Music Club, the Little String Orchestra, and was proud to enjoy the suppers and support of her dear friends in the Belholme Gang. Arrangements are entrusted to the BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue. Cremation has taken place. As per her wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.
