Obituary of Josephus VandenBerg

Vandenberg, Josephus Martinus (April 8, 1933 to July 22, 2015) It is with deep sadness we will miss this man who modelled what he taught us. Dad slipped into glory on Tuesday morning after a recent sudden decline in health, dying unobtrusively as he lived. Beloved husband of Nesta, who nursed him tenderly to the end. Cherished father of Peter (Maria), Martin, Wilma (Bill) Lobbezoo, Lloyd (Cathy) and Len. Gentle, patient Opa to fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren for whom he prayed regularly. Faithful husband to our mother, Corrie, until her death over ten years ago. Loving brother of Henk (Anne), Corrie (Leen) Overvliet, Wim (deceased) (Rulie) and John (Joanne). Those who knew this prayer warrior saw 1 Corinthians 13 lived out. He had a large heart for people, regardless of age, status, gender or race and his constant desire was to share the hope of the gospel with all he met. He knew he was far from perfect, realizing he was simply a sinner saved by grace. Though our eyes brim with tears, we rejoice, knowing he has received the affirmation of the God he loved, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter in!" Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue on Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 10-11 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment Mt. Zion Cemetery, Copetown. Donations to WEC International, 37 Aberdeen Ave., Hamilton L8P 2N6 or his granddaughter Deeana’s missionary work would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Joe in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
