HOLMES, Douglas Munro (Rose) - Passed away peacefully at Brantford General Hospital, in his 98th year after a short battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Thelma, his wife of 61 years. Cherished father of Sheila Alborough and Pamela, and dear father-in-law to Chris Alborough. Predeceased by his parents Margaret and Obadiah Holmes and his siblings Andrew Holmes, Margaret Buchanan, William Holmes and Nancy Holmes (Riven). He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and many friends. Doug served overseas with the 17th Duke of York Royal Canadian Hussars and participated in the Normandy landing and the liberation of Holland. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Brantford General Hospital. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., on Monday from 7 - 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12 - 1 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Donations to the CT Scan Fund, Brantford General Hospital would be appreciated. "A kind and gentle man, he will be greatly missed." A tree will be planted in memory of Doug in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
