It was Elton and Phyllis's wedding day and at 7 years of age I was to be the flower girl! I remember my mother helping me get ready at home. The dress was a lovely long peach coloured one with a bonnet to match. A neighbour, Mr. Jolson, made sure he saw me in my outfit as he said I always wore jeans, he also told me I looked beautiful which made me feel special. Next we went to Phyllis's parent's house where Phyllis and the bridesmaids were getting ready. One of them was putting on perfume and asked me if I wanted some, and of course I replied yes. Also I was given a beautiful little basket of flowers to carry. Then I had a ride with Phyllis and the bridesmaids to the church but don't recall much of the actual service. However, I do remember, riding in the car with the bride and groom after the ceremony. Elton kept saying " Hello Mrs. Papple, Hello Mrs.Papple " and seemed so happy. Of course Phyllis was giggly and happy too, and I thought it was all so wonderful and exciting. It was a Fairy Tale day for this 7 year old little girl.
