Dorothy Elaine Morris (nee Colwell)
March 2, 1937 – October 12, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Elaine Morris (Colwell) on Saturday
October 12, 2024, surrounded by so much love from her family, friends, and the amazing staff and
volunteers at the Stedman Community Hospice.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late John Charles Morris (2006), to whom she was married for 38
wonderful years. She was the loving mother of Tuyet Yurczyszyn (Darren), Beth Morris Evans (James),
Lara Morris Bell (Brad), and Aaron Morris. She was also the cherished grandmother of Jackson, Luke,
and Bria, and was the dear sister of Gary, Joan Montague (Steve), and David (Sandy). Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Thomas Sr. and Ethel, and her other siblings Jim, Thomas Jr., and Jacquelyn.
After bringing their daughter Beth into the world, Dorothy and John wanted to help children in need in other parts of the world and so began their relentless pursuits of adopting Lara from Bangladesh, Aaron from Vietnam, and Tuyet also from Vietnam.
Dorothy was a long-time Bingo player and loved to play cards with her Bridge Club. She was also actively involved with the Drum and Bugle Corps for many years as a chaperone, Board member, and a
supportive parent to her children and their friends.
Dorothy faced a lot of hardships and fought a lot of battles in her life, but she never wanted to be a burden on anyone and remained fiercely independent for as long as she could be. After losing John in
2006, she remained the glue that held her family together and never stopped giving them unconditional love, strength, and support when they needed it, even through her own grief and sadness. She taught
her family how to be strong and self-sufficient, encouraged them to follow their dreams and find their own
paths in life, stood by them when they had to learn from their mistakes, and celebrated their victories
along the way.
Dorothy was a polite and well-mannered lady who continually reminded her family how important it is to say “Please”, “Thank You”, and “I Love You”. She loved to bake, dance, sing, and laugh and was known for that beautiful smile that she often shared proudly – even up to her final day. There are not enough
words to express how much she was loved, how much she will be missed, and how lucky so many people were to have had her in their lives for as long as they did.
Dorothy - may you rest forever in peace and although we ask you to “be good”, we know that you’ll “be good at it”.
