Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ALMAS, Kenneth Gordon October 22, 1933-August 27, 2024 After a brief illness this past month, Ken, in his 91st year, was called home to live forever with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Although our hearts are heavy, we find comfort and joy knowing that he is in his heavenly home and has been reunited with our son and brother, Grant, who passed away almost two years ago. As a husband, Ken was utterly devoted to his wife of 63 years, Dale, whom he adored. As a couple, they were never apart and together they shared many an adventure as they cycled throughout the U.S. and Europe. Raising four children, Ken left an indelible mark on their hearts as he wove his way quietly and seamlessly throughout their lives with unwavering love, commitment, generosity and much humour. Ken began life on an original farmstead on Maple Avenue in Burlington. He went on to graduate from McMaster University in 1957 with a BA in Chemistry. Upon graduation, Ken began his career working at Dow Chemical in Sarnia. In 1963, Ken moved his family to Brantford and there began working at Witco Chemicals where he remained until retirement in 1996. During his 32 year career as plant manager at Witco and with a growing family to support, Ken attended McMaster University once more. Over the course of several years, Ken attended evening classes in Hamilton and in 1972 he successfully graduated with his Masters of Business Administration. Ken was predeceased by his father, Fred Almas Senior and mother, Dorothy (nee Sparks), his brother, Fred Almas Junior and his son, Kenneth Grant Almas. He is survived by his wife, Dale (nee Tresham), his brother, Bruce (Bernice) and three daughters, Georgia (Phil) Mete, Jennifer (Marcuz) Wallis and Ginger (Mike) Hurlburt. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law Deborah (Grant) Almas. Also heartbroken by the loss of their beloved grandfather are Gabriel, Spencer (Alicia), Megan (Justin), Michael (Rachal), Daniel, Alex (Jordan), Cameron, Gray, Ava, Eric (Ruth), Meghan, Jack (Chloe), Claire (Karsten), Paige (Brendan) and Pippa (Owen). Happily, Ken became a great-grandfather one month ago to a great-granddaughter, Luca June. With God’s grace he was able to meet this tiny addition to the family just a few hours before he passed away. Ken was an incredible, brilliant man with many accomplishments. To him, nothing was impossible. All he needed was a trip to the library and he would have it all figured out. He took up golf at 80 years old and strived for perfection always having two or three different balls on the go. He swam most days and curled during the winter. All this while looking after his wife who has suffered from Alzheimers for the past 7 years. Ken went 100 miles an hour right to the end and amazed us all with his enduring strength, ceaseless loyalty and never-ending love for us all. He leaves a deep, deep hole that we will never fill but we know that soon we will all be together in Christ. The family would like to thank the many people who helped with his care this past month at the Brantford General Hospital, Tranquillity Place and also, the Stedman Hospice where he spent his final days. An interment for family will be held Tuesday, October 1st at 2 pm at Greenwood Cemetery, 1030 Greenwood Drive in Burlington. As well, a celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Saturday, October 5th from 1-4 pm at the Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course, 320 Balmoral Drive in Brantford. A service will be held at this time beginning at 2 pm.
