Obituary of Margot Williamson
Please share a memory of Margot to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peacefully, Margot passed away on June 2, 2024, at the Brantford General Hospital in the arms of her loving family. We are heartbroken by the loss of the most incredible Mama, Mom, Muggsy and Muggy.
Born in Brantford to Dr. and Mrs. Lyle Hutton, Margot was described as charming, graceful, kind, and charismatic. She was adored by her loving husband Paul, whom she married in 1968. They married nearly 20 years after Paul first kissed Margot outside his home, where she (aged approximately five years old) promptly pushed him into a bush for his efforts. We are all so grateful he brushed himself off and tried again.
She loved fiercely, laughed deeply, and took to heart a genuine care for others, their happiness and well-being. As a young woman, she followed in her family’s medical footsteps, working as a pediatric nurse at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto and then as a nurse in pediatrics at the Brantford General Hospital. Margot continued working as a nurse until she and Paul started their own family, welcoming Don, Duff and Erik, their mother’s absolute pride and joy. The circle of her love grew exponentially with the joyful addition of daughters-in-law and precious grandchildren, bringing her so much happiness as she watched the next generation of her family flourish.
We are comforted in our loss by the certainty of knowing how deeply loved we all were. Margot's fundamental love and care for others evolved into decades of philanthropy, outreach, and humble good works. Closest to her heart was “Margot’s Place,” an all-inclusive program offering peer support, parenting resources and advocacy for young mothers in the Brantford- Brant community – a cause that spoke deeply to her as a pediatric nurse and devoted mother.
In March of 2011, Margot spearheaded the dedication of a Quiet Room in the Brantford General Hospital’s Critical Care Unit, recognizing the need for a peaceful place for families to be together in times of great difficulty. Margot is dearly missed by her loving husband of 55 years, Paul; her sons Don (Kelly), Duff (Kerina), and Erik (Kimberley); her grandchildren Lucas, Lily, Gavin, Ben, Emma, Cohen, Seth, and Gabe, as well as the many cherished friends and family with whom she shared her life over the years. Our family is forever grateful for the loving, compassionate, and dignified care provided to Margot by the Brantford General Hospital’s Critical Care Unit. Their calm, steadfast support during her last days was a peaceful constant to all of us.
Interment has taken place at Farringdon Burial Ground as a private family service. Friends will be warmly welcomed as a open house is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brant Community Healthcare System or Margot’s Place (via E-transfer to admin@standrewsbrantford.com with “Margot’s Place” marked in the notes, or mailed to St. Andrews United Church, 95 Darling Street, Brantford, ON, N3T2K7) are gratefully appreciated.
