God Calls Mrs. Betty Chesser Home
Mrs. Betty Joan Chesser, a native of Cape Breton, N.S., and long-time resident of Brantford, Ontario was called from her transitory life on Sunday May 22, 2022, into the eternal glory of God’s keeping. She is survived by her grateful son, James Patrick Chesser, and granddaughter, Silvia Clio Trinitas Chesser, and sister Audrey Townsend.
Betty Chesser was a splendid type of person and prominent member of the Brantford community. She worked many years as the administrator of St. Joseph’s hospital, and following retirement, a devoted volunteer in palliative care, social work, and the Victoria Order Nurses. She received the Barbara Snowden Memorial Award from the VON and Aberdeen Health and Community Services. She was active in her church the healthcare community, and her family.
Those who knew Betty Chesser give thanks in humility for the singular gift she was to their lives. She was a soul for all seasons who strived to follow her mother’s example by trusting Christ, loving deeply, being self-assured in action, and bold in truth. She was modest and unassuming in her accomplishments, but a fusion of beautiful traits: kind and caring; determined, vivacious, and particular; humorous; a faithful assiduous friend; and a beloved mother, wife, and daughter. Her strife is now o’re; and the battle done. Lead, Kindly Light.
Betty Chesser (formerly Betty Joan Vatcher) is predeceased by her husband, James Patrick (Bud) Chesser, five sisters-Ruth, Millie, Belle, Alma, and Shirley-and brother Milton (Cap), as well as her parents, Sylvia and Emanuel Vatcher, all of whom were native and inveterate Maritimers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1st, at Beckett - Glaves Funeral Home, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, from 2 - 5 pm. A private prayer service will be held later at Grace Anglican Church. It was Mrs. Chesser’s wish that no flowers be sent, but rather those who loved her commit to one random act of kindness in her memory.
A tree will be planted in memory of Betty in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
