Obituary of Darlene Price
Please share a memory of Darlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Price, Darlene- After a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Darlene Price on January 13, 2022, at the Brantford General Hospital, just one day after 62nd birthday.
Darlene was a caring and devoted mother who prided herself on her ability to raise two beautiful daughters and considered them her greatest gifts in life. From her daughters, Darlene was blessed with her greatest joy, her three grandchildren. She loved her grandkids tremendously as they brought her immense happiness and hope on even the most challenging of days.
Throughout her life, Darlene overcame adversity and reached her goals. She was a role model for so many, but especially the young girls and women in her life. She enjoyed traveling and experiencing new cultures, making quilts and blankets, and giving them as gifts. She was a supportive and giving friend.
Darlene cared deeply for those in her community. During her time as a Social Worker with Ontario Works, she touched many lives over several years while also giving to the community through donations and volunteering her time.
When faced with health challenges she showed incredible strength, determination and bravery in the face of it all. During her 5 year fight with cancer, she was able to pave the way for so many others with lung cancer by petitioning the Ministry of Health to approve funding for a new treatment protocol, which afterward became the new standard of care.
Darlene did things her way and in her own time, right until the very end.
Survived by her children; Melissa Acheampong (Shawn) and Jennifer Beam (Adrian), grandchildren; Elijah, Mayla and Indiana, sisters; Debbie (Jerry), Lee Anne (John), Patricia (Roberto) and Maria (Daniel), and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Keith and Mildred Price and brother David Price (the late Betty).
Darlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Friends will be received from 12-2pm.
A Private Service will follow and is by invitation only.
A private interment service will be held in the Spring of 2022 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Brantford.
Darlene and her daughters would like to sincerely thank Dr. Rosalyn Jeurgens, Dr. Jim Wright and the wonderful staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre and the Palliative Care Unit at Brantford General Hospital, the staff from numerous Community Care Support Services, and the dear friends and family, who provided care and support throughout Darlene's cancer journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lung Cancer Canada.
A tree will be planted in memory of Darlene in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
