Obituary of Richard Koppers

Richard L Koppers 1962-2020 With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our cherished husband, father, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend. Richard L Koppers of Oakland, Ontario at the age of 58 passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Hamilton General Hospital. Richard will be deeply missed by his best friend, and wife of 33 years Christine (Jonkman). A proud father of his sons, Eric, Ryan (Emily) and Alex (Jessika). Devoted brother to Fran Donck and her husband Ed. Brother-in-law to Amy Logan and her husband Rob. He will be dearly missed by his father and mother-in-law John and Vera Jonkman. Loving and remembered by nephews and nieces Aaron, Paige, Austin, Spencer, Adam and Jillian (Jilly). Richard will also be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins from Canada and Holland. Predeceased by his father, Leo (2016) and his mother Anna (2017) Koppers. Family and friends will remember Rich for his warm smile, infectious laugh, selfless personality and strong sense of work ethic. Rich was a devoted chicken farmer for over 30 years starting from the guidance of John. He was a dedicated and passionate volunteer firefighter for 25 years at Scotland Fire Department. A proud member of the Lion’s Club and was also an employee of Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Home. Always giving back and helping others, Rich could be relied on to volunteer in his community and to be a good friend. Rich lived an extraordinary life, living life to the fullest never turning down a cold drink with his buddies, whether it be on the snowmobile trail (with “buddy Dave”) or a hot summer weekend on the boat with his oldest and dearest friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to the dedicated doctors and nurses at Hamilton General Hospital for their passionate care. Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave. Brantford, 519-752-4331. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a Charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Richard in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
