Obituary of Bill Anscombe

ANSCOMBE,  William “Bill” John It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of Bill on Saturday March 21, 2020 at the Brantford General Hospital in his 96th year. Predeceased by long time companion Audrey Tryon (1993); sister Julia McCall (1995) who also served in WWII, brother Jack Anscombe and son Billy (1955). Bill was born and raised in Brantford. The house he was born in is still standing.  He saw many changes and progress to Brantford in his lifetime – not always agreeing with what was done!  Bill will be missed by his Children: Robert Anscombe, Pam Townie, Darlene (Brian) Dick, Cheryl (Nick) Larsen, Raulie (Yvonne) Holman, Debbie Dick, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bill will also be missed by close friends and caregivers Janet Vickerman and Wayne and Sandy Thompson, and all those at the 56th Regiment.  Bill joined the Dufferin Haldimand Rifles of Canada as a boy soldier. He served in WWII, spending time in North Africa, Cecily, Italy and France. Bill continued to serve in the Reserves (now 56th Regiment) for several years upon his return home and has continued his contact with the Regiment. It is very possible that Bill is one of the last members of the Dufferin Haldimand Rifles of Canada.  Bill worked at Massey Ferguson and many construction positions over the years completing his working career with 17 years as a Crossing Guard for Central Public School.  Due to the COVID-19 OUTBREAK and to keep with Bill’s burial wishes, a private interment will take place Thursday March 26, 2020 at Mount Hope Cemetery. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue, Brantford 519-752-4331. A tree will be planted in memory of Bill in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
