PORTEOUS, Helen Margaret (nee Eddy) - August 24, 1921 - May 12, 2016 - With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Helen, peacefully, in her 95th year. Eldest daughter of the late Wilfred and Velma Eddy. Devoted wife of Ted (d: 2012) for 69 wonderful years. Cherished big sister to Mary Rammage (d:2010), Dorothy Conly and Carol Martin, and treasured aunt to her nieces and nephews for whom she cared deeply. Helen was a very proud Canadian and had a life long interest in politics. She was a creative thinker, resourceful cook, and an accomplished knitter. She had a life-long love of reading, which she has passed on to her family. She enjoyed nature, especially watching the birds at the bird feeder, with cardinals being her favourite. Helen was always up for a good game of scrabble and rarely lost. She valued friendship and was a loyal and true friend to many throughout her lifetime. The family wishes to express a very special thank you to Dr. Connelly, who has been both a wonderful doctor and caring friend, and to Vicky East, Helen’s PSW, for her dedicated care and companionship. We would also like to thank the thoughtful staff at Tranquility Place and to thank the 7th floor staff at BGH for their excellent and compassionate care during these past few weeks. Helen will be forever greatly missed and will live on in our hearts forever. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue (519) 752-4331. At Helen’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family funeral will be held. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery, Family Plot. Charitable donations in Helen’s memory to Camp Trillium Waterford or to the Canadian Cancer Society for the treatment of women’s cancers are appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Helen in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
