Condolences
I only had the joy of knowing Dougie in the last few years of her life but very quickly after meeting her I knew she would always be a dear friend. We always enjoyed our visits with each other. I will never forget her beautiful radiant smile and the heartfelt gratitude and appreciation she expressed with her kind words when she had a visitor. When she was moved to palliative care I was very moved by the kindness and respect and appreciation she had for the nurses who clearly adored her. It was so clear how much her health care team at St. Joseph's Hospital appreciated her beautiful presence. I witnessed time and time again the beautiful smiles she brought to their faces and the great affection that they tended to her with. She could light up a room and lift hearts with with her beautiful smile. Many a time I arrived to see a nurse exiting her room with a huge smile on their face. She was a fascinating person with so many talents and interests and could listen deeply and with great interest to what others had to say. I found her to be remarkably humble and genuine. I was always touched by the deep love that she had for her children that radiated from her with even the slightest mention of their names. Towards the end of her life, when the conversations were shorter and the quiet periods longer I was able to more fully realize the depth of the grace with which she lived her life. I miss her dearly and am ever so grateful for having the great pleasure of knowing her. I will never forget Dougie, she was a beautiful person and the ripple effect of the happiness she could create in others will live on. My deepest condolences to her family and to all who loved her.
