Obituary of Grace Lundy

Lundy, Grace Amelia - Passed away at the Hardy Terrace Long Term Care Facility on Monday, April 12th, 2010, ten days before her 94th birthday. Loving wife of the late Lorne Lundy (1981). Saddened by her loss are her daughters Marion Laidlaw and her husband Bob of Brantford and Carole Lundy of Cambridge. Also survived by her grandchildren Joanne and Allan Pettit, Timothy and Barb Laidlaw, David and Kirsten Laidlaw, Karen and John Stewart, as well as her great-grandchildren and sister Ruth Williams. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Annie Phillipo and her siblings Irene Todd, Stan and George Phillipo. Grace was born in Brantford Township and grew up on the family farm on Birkett's Lane. She attended Bellview School in Brantford and was hired by Spalding Bros at the age of 14, where she worked for the next 10 years mastering the skill of sewing covers on softballs. After their marriage in 1940, she and Lorne moved to Galt and she became a stay-at-home mom, enjoying gardening, cooking, and crafts. She taught herself the difficult art of tatting, as well as knitting, crocheting, smocking, embroidery and quilting. She produced many keepsake pieces for her family throughout the years. Grace became a resident of Hardy Terrace in December and her family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff for the care, kindness and compassion she received during her stay there. At Grace's request, there will be a private funeral service at the BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue, Brantford (519) 752-4331. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be most appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Grace in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
