Obituary of Agnes Maich

Please share a memory of Agnes to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maich, Agnes Honorata (nee Sroka) - Agnes Maich peacefully joined her God on March 26, 2010 in her 93rd year after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Maich (1978). Loving mother of ever devoted children Bob (Sharon), of Oakville, Tom (Margaret), of Oakville, Nancy (Jim) Tudhope, of Brantford, and Pam (Tony) Falikowski, of Oakville. Proud and caring grandmother of Rob (Fiona), and Susi Maich, Allison, Jeff Tudhope and his fiancee Rebecca, Michael, Heather, and Michelle Falikowski, and Kristen, Rachel and William Maich, and her great-grandchildren Samantha Maich and Katie Gilmore. Faithful daughter of John and Nellie Sroka, and dear sister of Amy McColeman, Freda Sroka and Mike Sroka, all predeceased. Mom was born in Brantford in 1917, the daughter of Polish immigrants who passed through Ellis Island at the turn of the century. She developed a strong work ethic and enjoyed many years working with Eaton's and the White Bakery. She had a healthy respect for learning and instilled in her family the importance of education and trying one's best. Mom was a wonderful, fun-loving woman who lived life to the fullest. She was devoted totally to her immediate and extended family and to her church. She faithfully attended Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, led Pioneer Girls and participated in many missionary and church initiatives. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed cooking, antiquing, refinishing furniture, gardening and travel. In her later years, Mom loved cottaging on Lake Rosseau, camping in Algonquin and traveling to Poland to visit relatives. She enjoyed football and hockey (including the sad Leafs) and loved watching her kids and grandkids play sports. Mom had a great sense of humour, an infectious laugh and loved a good joke (often at her own expense). She shared her love of life with everyone. Mom was truly one-of-a-kind. She was faithful to her beliefs, an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and role model. She loved her children's spouses as she loved her own children. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the exceptional care given at Leisure World and by her personal caregivers, Ruth and Geraldine. A special thanks to Ken and Mary Donald and Bill Bowen who were steadfast and devoted visitors for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Agnes in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
