Obituary of George Robertson

ROBERTSON, George "Geordie" - It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of George Robertson, on Friday, May 23rd 2008, at St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre. He was in his 89th year. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Robertson (2001). Much loved father of Pat (Doug) McLeish (nee Robertson) of Brantford. Beloved grandfather of Ryan and Paul. Dear brother of Gil of Chatham and his late sister-in-law Ebba. Fondly missed by niece Marna and nephew Randy. Best friend of Tom 'Scrap' Brownlie and his wife Irene, and dear friend of Joe Pelesh and his wife Ann. George will be missed by many other great friends and neighbours. George was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force of World War II, squadron # 433. He loved his old timer's weekly Cherryhill Coffee Club, that reminisced on their baseball and hockey days. He was a well respected baseball umpire and OHA hockey referee. George retired after 25 years as manager from the London L.C.B.O. He enjoyed many years of Huff 'n' Puff hockey, golf and the London Knights games. Thanks to the great care provided by Dr. Hadley and caregivers of St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre. Dad, we will miss your sense of humour and your warm and generous heart. At George's request cremation has taken place privately. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue, Brantford, on Thursday, May 29th, from 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in London at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 727 Southdale Road East, (at the corner of Wellington and Southdale) on Saturday, May 31st, at 2:00 p.m. A private family burial of ashes is planned for a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers to the S.P.C.A., the Alzheimer's Society of Brant or the St. Joseph's Lifecare Foundation would be greatly appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of George in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
