Obituary of Dora Stubel

STUBEL, Dora Margaret (nee MIttelsted) - Born - Benson SK. March 12, 1921 - Deceased Brantford, ON Nov. 23rd, 2013. Dora grew up on a farm during drought, dust storms, grasshoppers and the Great Depression. She attended one room schools, high school by correspondence courses, assisted by the teachers. She attended Normal School in Regina, and in 1939, began teaching in a one room rural school. She also taught at Port Alice, BC, and after her marriage and move to Ontario, she also taught here for 20 years. Predeceased by Rudy, her husband of 55 years, infant daughter Charmian Joan, sisters Martha Duke, Olga Shea, and brother Capt. Walter Mittelsted. She leaves her children, Dr. Rod and Debra, Charlene Freeborn, Randy and Sheila, grandchildren Adam, Jason, Melinda, Devin and Braden. She delighted in their diverse talents and accomplishments. Also survived by sisters Lily Hilderman, Saskatoon, and Anne Wilhelm, Estevan, SK. and numerous nephews and nieces. Dora was actively involved with Lutheran Church Women, and Lutheran World Relief. She was co-chair of Faith Lutheran Refugee Sponsorship of the Nguyen Family from Vietnam. They always called her "Mom". Dora loved life. She always maintained that as long as her brain, eyes and fingers worked, she would continue to read, cook, knit, sew and play cards...and she did ! Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, (519) 752-4331. Friends will be received at Faith Lutheran Church, 57 Brant Ave. on Friday, December 6th from 1 - 2 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at the church on Friday, Dec. 6th at 2 p.m. Donations to Faith Lutheran Church would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Dora in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
