Obituary of Joan Archer

It is with heavy hearts that the family shares the passing of Joan Archer (née Cameron), on February 22, 2026, at Stedman Community Hospice. Joan was born October 21, 1944 on the family’s dairy farm, to parents Ross (1995) and Kathleen (2013) Cameron. She experienced many adventures growing up with her siblings Don (1995) (Joanne 2014), Ruth Henricks, and Bob (Grazyna), and her cousins Jim, Margaret (2024), Ann, Jean and Mary. Joan met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Archer, while attending Pauline Johnson Collegiate and they enjoyed 58 beautiful years together before his passing in 2024. Together, Joan and Dick raised their four children, Scott (Betty), Jennifer (Jim) Bergsma, Shannon (Felix) Stasevicius, and Michael. Nothing made Joan prouder than her grandchildren Emily, Duncan, Max and Doug; Matthew (Sidney Flewelling) and Jordan; Patrick and Andrew. Joan worked for many years as a secretary at Onondaga-Brant Public School, as well as Pauline Johnson CVS. She was deeply involved in Langford Community Church, enjoying many friendships while immersed in the faith-filled environment. Following a life-changing experience in 2000, Joan and Dick decided to make the most of life and began travelling. They bought a series of trailers for adventuring through Canada and the US, and also enjoyed a river cruise in Europe. Joan never backed down from hard work. Whether renovating and building houses alongside Dick, participating in activities at Langford, working around the farm, cooking for large family gatherings, or caring for Dick when Parkinsons made life difficult, Joan rose to the occasion. Following their move to Simcoe, Joan enjoyed learning Tai Chi and Qigong, and she eventually started taking art classes at the Senior’s Centre. She flourished in her artwork, winning numerous ribbons at multiple fall fairs in 2025! It seemed that no matter what life threw at Joan, she was able to find a positive way forward. Her faith in God carried her through every situation. We would like to thank the many incredible medical personnel who helped Joan maintain her independence, while supporting her through her journey. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre on Sunday March 1, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Monday March 2, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Beckett-Glaves chapel.
