Passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington in Guelph on January 26, 2025 in his 96 th year. Cecil was born and raised on a farm near Elora to Howard and Julia Wittich (Craig) on October 31,1929. Predeceased by his loving wife, Sharon Wittich (Campbell), of 63 years and their infant daughter, Nancy. Beloved father of Jeff (Aileen) Wittich and Garth (Jeanette) Wittich. Much cherished Grandfather and Papa to Mark, Joanna, Nathan, and Julia. Predeceased by his brother, John (Margaret) Wittich, his sisters, Thelma (Guy) Lee and Marion (Robert) Norris, and brother-in-law, Bert Freiburger. Survived by his sister, Evelyn Freiburger (Wittich), and brother, Elwyn (Kim) Wittich. Cecil will be missed by his nieces, nephews, friends, and staff at The Village at University Gates. As a young boy, Cecil attended West Montrose United Church with his family. In his twenties, he attended Waterloo Lutheran College and Emmanuel Bible College in Toronto. He was ordained by the United Church of Canada in 1960. That same year, he married the love of his life, Sharon Campbell, in St. George, Ontario before they moved to Cecil’s first parish in Manitouwadge. His next congregation was in Burgessville, followed by Blyth and Listowel. He and Sharon retired to Waterloo in 1994. Over the years, Cecil enjoyed spending time with family and friends, summers at the cottage, gardening, golf, and crokinole. Cecil also enjoyed going for walks, talking with neighbours, watching hockey, and completing small jobs around the home. He will be remembered for his caring, gentle, and friendly manner that continues to inspire. In later years, Cecil looked after Sharon at home until she moved into a long-term care home in 2020. Cecil eventually moved into a retirement home and enjoyed visiting Sharon each week when his sons, Jeff and Garth, took him to see her. Sincere thanks to Cecil’s dedicated care team at University Gates for their professionalism and compassion. Sincere thanks as well to Hospice Wellington, where he received outstanding care from the staff and volunteers involved. Family and friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 from 10-11 am.
